- A Hands-on approach to learning -

At Potential Private Tutoring, your child will not be taught with a worksheet. Our approach is more of a hands-on and kinaesthetic style, which allows children to be engaged in their learning on a deeper level.

Your child will use a variety of tools such as whiteboards, Scrabble tiles, magnetic letters, stamps, Playdoh and pencils to help them develop their writing skills. The use of technology in the form of digital stories, songs and apps will support their learning and help them engage with the content in a different way. Your child will use hands-on games to help support the development of their oral, visual and written communication. They will develop reading skills, listen to stories and learn how to respond to texts in different ways.

You will be kept up to date with your child’s progress throughout the program. Following each tuition session, you will also be given additional information to equip you with the knowledge and ideas to follow up on the skills that have been taught.

The Pre-Prep Program is flexible and can be tailored to your needs. You can choose for your child to participate once or twice a week. You can also choose the length of the program. You may want to commit to a 12 week program prior to the beginning of Prep or you may choose to continue tuition to further support the learning they are doing at school.

Give your child a head start and help them begin their Prep year with greater confidence.

The start of school is an exciting but scary time, not just for children but also for you as parents. Many parents ask the questions “Is my child ready for school?” “What do they need to know?” or “How can I help to prepare them?”

I believe it is important to start them off on the right foot, by not only equipping them with essential early literacy skills but also giving them the tools and strategies to be successful learners. I will endeavour to help your child develop a strong work ethic, a persistent attitude and a positive mindset that will enable them to begin school with greater confidence and self-belief.

Each tutoring session is tailored to the needs of your child and will consist of engaging and stimulating activities to develop your child’s understanding of the English language. Areas of focus include letter/sound identification, CVC word recognition, vowel and consonant digraph sounds, sight words, hearing and recording sounds and decoding words by chunking and blending sounds.

As a primary school teacher, I love those ‘light bulb moments’ that happen when I am working with a student and something just clicks. The sense of pride they feel when they work hard, challenge themselves and persist until they succeed just helps them develop a greater enthusiasm for learning. These are the things that I hope to build in every child that I work with – confidence, enthusiasm and a love of learning that will enable them to succeed and reach their full potential.
